Ortom Denies Collaborating with Obi Ahead of 2027 Election

Samuel Ortom, the former Governor of Benue State, addressed allegations that he collaborated with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Ortom clarified that he provided his vehicle to Obi as a courtesy during Obi's visit to Benue State on a humanitarian mission to pay condolences to families affected by a massacre in June 2025.

Ortom's media aide, Terver Akase, stated that refusing to assist Obi would have been petty. The controversy arose after Governor Hyacinth Alia's administration accused Ortom of facilitating Obi's visit, claiming that the vehicle used, a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GWA 608 BT, was registered in Ortom's name.

Alia's Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, indicated that the state government was investigating the incident, questioning how Ortom could support President Bola Tinubu while assisting another presidential candidate. Ortom dismissed the allegations as ridiculous and shameful, emphasizing that Obi is a significant political figure deserving of respect.
