Ortom Accuses Alia of Blocking Peter Obi's Convoy

Samuel Ortom, the former Governor of Benue State, alleged that the incumbent governor, Hyacinth Alia, was involved in blocking the convoy of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Ortom claimed during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today that the blockade was a deliberate act to prevent Obi from visiting and sympathizing with victims of violence in the state.

He challenged Governor Alia to deny his involvement. The incident occurred on Tuesday along Boko Road, near the Nigerian Air Force Base, where Obi's media aide, Esther Umoh, reported the blockade.

Following the incident, the Benue State Command of the Nigeria Police Force announced arrests related to the blockade. State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, defended the police's actions during the attack, stating they acted professionally to prevent escalation.

He confirmed that Peter Obi was later safely escorted to the airport.
