Datti Baba-Ahmed Rejects Opposition's Unity Candidate Plan

Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was the former vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, expressed his rejection of the opposition's proposal to unite behind a single presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 elections. Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television's "Politics Today," he addressed the recent declaration made by a group of opposition figures in Ibadan, which aimed to present a unified candidate against President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Baba-Ahmed noted that the meeting in Ibadan did not include members from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) or the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that the absence of these parties undermines the credibility of the unity plan. He emphasized that the involved parties need to agree on a candidate, asserting that the current lack of unity makes the proposal unlikely to succeed.

Baba-Ahmed ran alongside Peter Obi in the 2023 elections and pointed out the existing internal divisions within the opposition.
