ITU Champions Global Inclusivity in Artificial Intelligence

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has taken significant steps to democratize artificial intelligence (AI) for global inclusivity, as declared during the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi, India, attended by representatives from 88 nations. ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin highlighted that AI's potential to transform lives can only be realized if its benefits are shared globally.

She stressed the importance of three essential foundations: shared standards, skills, and solutions, warning that without these, the world risks fragmentation and uncertainty in AI access. Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India also addressed the summit, discussing the transformative power of AI.

The ITU plans to continue fostering global dialogue on AI governance and its tangible benefits, with a focus on ensuring that AI serves humanity. The organization aims to address the digital divide and enhance cooperation around AI governance, supporting practical applications that respond to societal needs.

The global AI market is projected to grow significantly, reaching approximately $1.8 trillion by 2030.
