UNICEF Launches ‘Yes! Girl’ Podcast to Empower Girls

On the occasion of the 2026 International Women's Day (IWD), UNICEF introduced the ‘Yes! Girl’ podcast in Enugu, aimed at amplifying the voices of adolescent girls in Nigeria.

The initiative allows girls aged 9 to 19 to discuss critical issues affecting their health, welfare, and social situations, particularly in contexts where parental support may be lacking. The launch event took place at a cinema hall within Spar Supermarket in Enugu State and attracted government officials, civil society organizations, and students from various schools.

Ngozi Izuora Songu, an adolescent development specialist at UNICEF, emphasized the podcast as a safe digital space for girls to engage in discussions on topics such as mental health, education, and climate action. Mr. Mbah Esther, Director of Gender at the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, praised the initiative and encouraged students to recognize their potential.

The podcast aims to break down barriers to education and empower girls to speak out against injustices.
