Anambra First Lady Advocates for Women's Empowerment

On March 8, 2023, Nony Soludo, the First Lady of Anambra State, issued a statement to commemorate International Women's Day, calling for enhanced women's empowerment. She noted that despite decades of discussions aimed at improving women's conditions, there has been little progress in addressing their plight in society.

Soludo stressed the importance of placing women at the forefront of conversations about their rights and empowerment, urging every woman to take bold steps toward becoming change-makers. She commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for proposing legislation to ensure a specific number of seats for women in the National Assembly and encouraged similar initiatives at the state level.

Soludo highlighted various initiatives by the Anambra State government, including free education for primary and secondary schools, free antenatal care, and programs benefiting 10,000 women. She emphasized the need for women to be actively involved in political processes to ensure meaningful change and impact.
