NUJ Calls for Mentorship to Empower Women in Media

Comrade Grace Ik, the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, called for intentional mentorship to break down barriers that prevent women from achieving their full potential in society. Her statement was made during the commemoration of the 2026 International Women's Day (IWD).

Ik urged the government, media institutions, and organizations to collaborate in dismantling these barriers. She reflected on her journey to becoming the NUJ FCT chairman at the age of 40, attributing her success to the resilience and determination of fellow women who supported her against the odds.

Ik highlighted that opportunities for women to lead and contribute are essential for their success. She specifically called on women in the media sector to mentor young female journalists, create safe and supportive workplaces, provide leadership opportunities, and ensure that women's voices are heard in decision-making processes.
