JAMB Re-arrests Score Upgrade Scammer, Warns Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has re-arrested a suspect involved in a fraudulent scheme aimed at upgrading examination scores for candidates sitting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The registrar, Zainab Hamza, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja, expressing concern over the suspect's repeat offenses despite being granted bail.

The suspect, known by the alias Akataka, was initially arrested for conspiracy, impersonation, identity theft, and online fraud. He allegedly operated under the pseudonym "Frederick" on WhatsApp to lure candidates with false promises of score enhancement.

Investigations revealed that he used his father's bank account to receive payments and opened an account under a false identity to gain the trust of unsuspecting candidates. JAMB has reiterated its commitment to tackling examination malpractice and protecting the integrity of Nigeria's examination system, citing previous convictions, including that of Ibrahim Abdulaziz, who was sentenced to three years in prison for similar offenses.
