JAMB and WAEC Introduce ₦4,000 Verification Fee

On September 1, 2026, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced a new ₦4,000 one-off verification fee for candidates utilizing WASSCE O’Level results for tertiary admissions. This initiative aims to eliminate the need for repeated verification of the same academic credentials across multiple institutions.

Candidates will verify their WAEC results through the JAMB Verification Service, with the results electronically transmitted to the relevant universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education for admission processing. The new policy is designed to simplify the admission process, reduce financial burdens, and prevent institutions from charging additional verification fees for the same WAEC result.

Once a candidate verifies their WAEC result, it remains valid for subsequent admissions at different institutions without incurring further verification costs. This measure is part of ongoing efforts to digitize and streamline Nigeria's tertiary admission process, addressing the administrative challenges faced by applicants.
