Japan invests $10.4 million in Nigeria's innovation hubs

The government of Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has committed $10.4 million to support the expansion of innovation hubs across Nigeria. This announcement was made by Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), during the foundation laying ceremony of the Renewed Hope Startup Hub in Abuja.
JICA is also collaborating with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) to establish a $50 million seed-funding facility for startups, aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship and creating jobs in the digital economy. Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Hideo Suzuki, stated that Japan's support focuses on long-term business nurturing rather than quick financial exits.
Abdullahi noted that NITDA's initiatives have supported over 995 startups and created 7,596 jobs. The Renewed Hope Startup Hub will serve as a national center for incubation and business collaboration, with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu emphasizing the need for accessible services for young entrepreneurs.
