NITDA Reports 7,596 Jobs Created by Startups in Nigeria
The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, announced that technology startups in Nigeria have created 7,596 digital jobs over the last three years with federal government support. This announcement was made during the laying of the foundation stone for the new Renewed Hope Startup Hub in Wuye, Abuja.
Abdullahi mentioned that more than 995 startups received assistance through NITDA’s initiatives, and over 300 companies were trained via the Digital Export Acceleration Programme. Additionally, 1,752 women benefited from the We-Elevate initiative.
He noted that 333 startups across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory were trained between 2025 and early 2026. The Japanese government, through JICA, provided $10.4 million to expand the innovation hub, and plans for a $50 million seed-funding facility for startups are in collaboration with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).
First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu emphasized the project's significance for digital inclusion and youth empowerment.
