Japan Boosts Nigerian Badminton with Equipment Donation

Japan has donated badminton equipment to Nigeria to support grassroots development in the sport, significantly boosting the Badminton Federation of Nigeria's programs. The donation, part of the Japanese government's Sport for Tomorrow initiative, was presented during a ceremony in Abuja.

Key dignitaries included Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Suzuki Hideo, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and President of the Nigerian Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Gumel.

The equipment donated consists of 55 badminton rackets, 44 shuttlecocks, six racket covers, and three racket bags. Ambassador Suzuki described the donation as a symbol of enduring friendship between Japan and Nigeria, emphasizing the role of sports in promoting mutual understanding and international cooperation.

The Badminton Federation of Nigeria, led by President Franci Orbih, expressed gratitude for the support, which will enhance training standards and athlete development. The federation plans to register badminton academies nationwide and launch a national badminton league to further strengthen grassroots development.
