Shehu Praises Amupitan for Osun Election Success

Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, praised former INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega for conducting Nigeria's best election since the disputed June 12, 1993, poll. His remarks came in a statement commending current INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan for the outcome of the recent governorship election in Osun State.

Shehu expressed confusion over Amupitan's silence following the election's success, questioning why he had not publicly acknowledged the achievement. He noted that under Amupitan's leadership, the electoral process had become more transparent, receiving commendations from civil society, the EU, and observers for the seamless uploading of results to INEC's IReV.

Shehu contrasted this with the typical behavior of public officials in Nigeria, who often celebrate successes without substantial achievements, urging Amupitan to publicly celebrate the electoral success.
