Nigeria Exports Over 1 Billion Liters of Jet Fuel to Europe

Nigeria has exported over 1 billion liters of jet fuel to Europe within just 50 days, with 456,000 tons exported in March and 420,000 tons in April. This surge is attributed to Dangote Refinery, Africa's largest, which has ramped up production of petroleum products, including jet A1 fuel.

The exports come at a critical time when traditional suppliers in the Gulf, such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar, are struggling to maintain export volumes due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned that Europe may have only six weeks of jet fuel reserves left, prompting a scramble for alternative suppliers like Nigeria.

The quality of fuel from Dangote Refinery is noted to be attractive to European markets, which are seeking shorter and more secure supply chains. The situation has led European airlines to adjust operations in anticipation of tighter fuel supplies.
