Red Cross and UNICEF Unite to Combat Jigawa Flooding

The Nigerian Red Cross Society and UNICEF are strategizing to tackle the flooding crisis in Jigawa State, which has been exacerbated by heavy rains affecting local government areas along the Hadejia Valley, specifically Ringim, Auyo, and Guri. On Friday, they disclosed their collaboration, which includes the launch of two documents aimed at addressing the disaster management challenges posed by the incessant rains.

Timothy Ali Yohanna, a communication specialist from the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and Samuel Kaalu from UNICEF's Kano field office, presented measures designed to control flooding in the affected areas. The strategies include pre-event interventions, river embankment maintenance, and community awareness campaigns to reduce flood risks and minimize impacts.

This initiative is supported by humanitarian aid from the European Union.
