Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani Appointed Emir of Gumel

Jigawa Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has appointed Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel. This decision follows the death of the previous emir, Alhaji (Dr) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who passed away on September 3, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, after serving for 46 years.

The appointment was made based on recommendations from the Gumel Emirate Council kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs. Malam Bala Ibrahim, the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, announced the appointment, stating that it was made after careful consideration of the traditional institutions' recommendations.

Prior to this role, Dr. Lawan served as the Chiroman Gumel and was the Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). Governor Namadi commended the kingmakers and the Emirs from the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs for their contributions to the selection process and congratulated Dr. Lawan on his new position, wishing him a successful reign.
