First Lady Launches Food Bank to Combat Malnutrition

On [date not specified], Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Wife of the President, launched the National Community Food Bank programme in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, aimed at addressing child malnutrition in the South-south geopolitical zone. The program focuses on children under six, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, with three food banks being launched simultaneously.

Currently, 1,179 beneficiaries are enrolled, and 2,089 food packages have been distributed. The initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which seeks to improve food security and healthcare outcomes.

Additionally, Mrs. Tinubu inaugurated a new RHI/TETFUND ICT Experience Centre at the University of Cross River to promote ICT skills among young Nigerians. She announced a relief fund of N500 million for 18 business owners affected by a fire disaster at Calabar mall and N50 million for women groups in the state.

Mrs. Tinubu also engaged with the state Traditional Rulers’ Council to discuss their role in national development.
