Jigawa State Allocates N8.1bn for Scholarships in 2025

The Jigawa State Government, under the leadership of Governor Umar Namadi, announced an expenditure of N8.1 billion on scholarships for the 2025 fiscal year, aimed at supporting nearly 35,000 students both domestically and abroad. This information was disclosed by Hamisu Moham Gumel, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, during the launch of the Danmodi Student Care 2026 mega program.

The allocation includes funding for 230 Jigawa students studying in foreign universities, particularly in medical and engineering programs. Governor Namadi emphasized that education is central to his administration's 12-point agenda for a greater Jigawa, highlighting policies that promote inclusivity and equal opportunities, especially for women and persons with disabilities.

The Danmodi Student Care program is part of a broader human development agenda, aiming to empower 2,500 almajiri pupils and support 287 Qur'anic school teachers. The state plans to increase scholarship spending to N10 billion in the proposed 2026 budget, with efforts to reduce school dropout rates and facilitate admissions for 15,000 university and 40,000 college students.
