Jigawa Residents Demand Total Ban on Betting for Youth Safety

Residents of Jigawa State are advocating for a total ban on betting to safeguard the youth from financial losses and to promote financial discipline. Ibrahim Musa, a resident, reported losing N3 million to betting and noted that this practice contributes to criminal behavior among the youth, with many currently serving jail terms for betting-related financial crimes.

Musa and others are appealing to the state government and the Emir Council to ban betting shops to protect the youth from the negative impacts of gambling. Ibrahim Moham advised that betting has detrimental social and economic effects, leading to financial ruin and criminal activities.

He recounted losing N5 million in a year due to betting. Ali Sabo, who has been betting for ten years, mentioned squandering N5 million during that time.

The lack of effective regulatory frameworks is seen as exacerbating financial difficulties for punters, leading to mental health challenges and stress related to betting losses.
