Jigawa Targets N30bn Annually Through Date Palm Farming Initiative

Jigawa State Government aims to generate N30 billion annually through date palm farming to empower youth, boost local production, and create jobs in northern Nigeria. The government, in collaboration with the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, recently initiated the planting of 50 million date palm trees as part of a national effort to combat desertification and restore degraded lands.

This initiative is expected to produce 70 kilos of seedlings monthly, generating N7 million. Additionally, 400 youths have been trained in hybrid date production techniques to enhance agricultural sustainability and economic growth in the region.

The project aligns with efforts to reduce dependency on federal allocations and promote self-sufficiency in agricultural practices.
