Nigerian Government Designates Jilli Airstrike Zone High-Risk

The Federal Government of Nigeria has classified the Jilli airstrike axis as a high-risk zone after a precise counter-terrorism operation conducted by the Nigerian Air Force on April 11, 2026. The operation aimed at disrupting terrorist activities in the Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, specifically targeting Boko Haram and ISWAP operatives.

Alhaji Mohd Idri, the Minister, expressed deep condolences to the families of those affected and emphasized the government's commitment to protecting civilian lives. The operation followed extensive intelligence surveillance that confirmed the presence of terrorist elements in the area, which has been a known insurgent stronghold.

The Nigerian Air Force's actions were based on credible intelligence and were not indiscriminate. Following the airstrike, a 15-year-old ISWAP courier was apprehended, revealing the depth of terrorist activities in the region.

The government has ordered a full independent investigation into the incident and urged civilians to adhere to security advisories to avoid the restricted zone.
