NAF Confirms Air Operations After Market Bombing in Borno
• Naijanews • General News
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) confirmed that its fighter jets conducted air operations in the Jilli Axis of Borno State as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the northeast. This confirmation followed reports of a bombing at a weekly market along the Borno-Yobe border, where at least 56 people were killed, and 14 others received treatment at a specialist hospital in Geidam, Yobe State. Eyewitnesses indicated that the airstrike missed its intended target, which was believed to be insurgents who frequent the market to collect levies and gather supplies. Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodam, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, explained that the operation was part of a broader counter-terrorism mission aimed at disrupting insurgent activities in the region. The airstrike, conducted on a Friday, was reported to have destroyed insurgent hideouts and neutralized several terrorists, reflecting an increase in intelligence-driven military operations in the northeast. However, the statement did not directly address the civilian casualties reported from the market incident.
