Jingir Warns Against State Police in Plateau State

Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, the national chairman of the Council of Ulama Jama'atu Izalatul Bid'ah Wa Ikamati Sunnah, has expressed strong opposition to the proposal for establishing state police in Plateau State. He cautions that this initiative may be a political maneuver aimed at destabilizing the state.

Jingir argues that certain political actors could exploit a state police structure to target individuals with opposing ideologies, emphasizing the need for peace and stability over partisan interests. He has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to carefully consider the implications of decentralizing police authority, which he believes could lead to abuses.

Jingir's comments come amid renewed discussions on restructuring Nigeria's security architecture, with critics fearing that state police could exacerbate existing ethnic and religious tensions. He also referenced the previous governor's alleged role in instigating instability for political gain, while urging the current governor, Mutfwang, to focus on peacebuilding efforts.
