JOHESU Calls for Urgent Salary Adjustments in Nigeria

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), represented by Chairman Dr. Kabiru Minjibir, called on the Nigerian government to resolve outstanding issues related to health workers' salaries during an interview at the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. Minjibir warned of possible renewed industrial action if the government does not implement the long-awaited adjustments to the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

He noted that despite several engagements with the government, the salary adjustments, which were part of a memorandum of understanding signed in April 2026, remain unaddressed. Dr.

Minjibir highlighted that the last industrial action by JOHESU occurred last year, leading to negotiations with the federal government. He reiterated that the lack of improvement in worker remuneration could negatively impact the health sector's productivity.

Additionally, he dismissed claims that non-medical health workers seek benefits similar to doctors, stressing the need for collaboration among healthcare professionals.
