King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja Crowned Opobo King

King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja was officially crowned as the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom in Rivers State, succeeding the late King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, who passed away last year. The coronation ceremony took place at King Jaja Square and was attended by notable dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife Patience, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe.

King Jaja, who assumed the traditional title of Jeki VI, was anointed and crowned by Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja.

In his address, he pledged to protect the rights of the Opobo people and uphold the dignity of the throne, referencing the historical significance of the 1870 exodus. Jonathan congratulated the new monarch and emphasized the importance of promoting peace and development in Opobo.

Governor Fubara, represented by his deputy, highlighted the role of traditional rulers in preserving culture and heritage, while Achebe acknowledged the historical ties between Onitsha and Opobo.
