Communities Rewarded for Promoting Peace in Jos Crisis

In response to recent violence in the Jos area, communities in Anguwan Rukuba and Anguwan Rogos were rewarded with N1 million for their efforts in protecting both Christians and Muslims. Specifically, Anguwan Rukuba residents safeguarded several Muslims during an attack by gunmen, while Anguwan Rogos residents later ensured the safety of individuals during a subsequent incident.

The reward, donated by a former member of the House of Representatives, aimed to commend these communities for promoting peace and coexistence. Community leaders emphasized the importance of prioritizing human life over religious differences, stating that the actions taken were motivated by a commitment to protect neighbors regardless of faith.

The situation in the area was brought under control two days after the violence, which resulted in the deaths of at least 28 individuals. A curfew was imposed and later relaxed as fresh violence erupted.

The communities' actions serve as a testament to the possibility of peaceful coexistence despite religious divides.
