NDC Candidate Denies Benue Youths Attacked Obi's Convoy

Daniel Onjeh, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Benue South, rejected allegations that Benue youths were responsible for the disruption of Peter Obi's convoy during his visit to the state. Onjeh clarified that the individuals who blocked Obi's convoy were mostly middle-aged men armed with sticks and stones, not representative of Benue's youth.

The incident occurred on Tuesday along the Makurdi-Gboko Federal Highway as Obi aimed to visit Yelwata, a community affected by a deadly attack in June 2025. The police confirmed the blockade and arrested 46 suspects, with investigations ongoing.

Onjeh highlighted that Obi had received significant support in the 2023 presidential election, securing 308,372 votes in Benue State, just behind the APC candidate. He argued that the actions of a few thugs should not reflect the sentiments of the youth, who had previously voted overwhelmingly for Obi.

Onjeh noted that many young people expressed their discontent with the incident and distanced themselves from the actions taken against Obi.
