Senate Orders Investigation into Plateau State Killings

The Nigerian Senate has ordered Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu to launch a full investigation into the recent killings in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, which resulted in the deaths of at least 28 people. This resolution was passed following a motion moved on Tuesday by Senator Dachung Mwadkon, who expressed urgent concern over the deteriorating security situation in the area.

The Senate highlighted the need for the apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrators. A high-powered delegation led by Senate President Godswil Akpabio will visit the affected communities to commiserate with the victims.

The Senate also noted the increasing complexity of the violence, which has economic, ethnic, and religious dimensions, warning that it disrupts agricultural activities and poses a threat to food security. The Senate emphasized the government's primary responsibility to protect lives and property and urged security agencies to adopt proactive measures, including establishing permanent operational bases in volatile areas.
