Journalists Trained on Ethical Conflict Reporting in Abuja

A five-day workshop organized by the Dallaire Institute and Journalist Human Rights in Abuja trained journalists on ethical conflict reporting and child protection. The training aimed to equip media practitioners with the knowledge and skills required to report responsibly on conflict-related issues involving children.

Veteran journalist Mr. Fide Mbah facilitated sessions on conflict-sensitive reporting, urging journalists to examine root causes and promote understanding rather than division.

SP Rtd Offiong Nsa presented on the impact of armed violence on children, highlighting severe physical, emotional, and psychological consequences. Mr.

Mustapha Dumbuya emphasized that children should not only be viewed as victims but as stakeholders in peacebuilding. The workshop included sessions on mental health, digital ethics, and gender-sensitive reporting, culminating in a story pitch exercise where selected journalists would receive grants for in-depth investigations on child protection and peacebuilding in conflict settings.
