ECNBA Chair Ejelam Defends Election Date Amid Resignation Calls

Aham Ejelam, the chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA), stated that he will not resign and that the elections set for July 18, 2026, will continue as scheduled. Ejelam made this declaration in a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday.

He emphasized that the electoral process would proceed unless there are constitutional changes. This statement follows a public call for his resignation by senior advocate Yomi Alliyu, who expressed concerns regarding the integrity of the ECNBA.

Ejelam's response included a commitment to uphold the electoral process despite facing blackmail threats and allegations aimed at undermining his character. He noted that he would not respond to unverifiable claims and would await judicial determination regarding the matter.
