NBA Confirms July 18, 2026 Election Amid Challenges

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has reaffirmed its commitment to holding the national elections on July 18, 2026, despite recent developments involving the arrest of the management director of the election service provider by the Department of State Services (DSS). During a virtual emergency meeting, NEC members unanimously resolved to maintain the scheduled election date, emphasizing the importance of an independent and democratic process.

The Electoral Committee of the NBA briefed the council on preparations for the elections, assuring that they are ready to conduct free, fair, transparent, and credible polls. The NEC strongly condemned the arrest and detention of the management director, describing the situation as deeply troubling and potentially disruptive to the electoral process.

They demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the director and insisted that no external interference should undermine the integrity of the elections. The council called on eligible members of the bar to remain calm and participate peacefully in the elections.
