INEC Announces Candidates for June 2026 Bye-Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the names of 20 candidates, including former Minister Labaran Maku, for the upcoming bye-elections scheduled for June 20, 2026. These elections will take place across six states: Ondo, Nasarawa, Rivers, Enugu, Kebbi, and Kano.

The bye-elections are necessary to fill vacant seats in the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as state houses of assembly, resulting from recent deaths and appointments that created these vacancies. Notable candidates include Adesanya Olaoluwa from the APC for the Ondo South Senatorial District, Halilu Danladi Envwulu from the APC for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, and Emmanuel David Ombugadu from the PDP for the Rivers South East Senatorial District.

INEC has assured stakeholders of its readiness to conduct credible elections across the designated polling areas.
