Maku Calls for Cancellation of Nasarawa Bye-Election

Labaran Maku, a former minister and Labour Party candidate, has demanded the cancellation of the recently concluded bye-election in Nasarawa North, alleging significant irregularities and violations of electoral laws by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Speaking to journalists in Nasarawa Eggon, Maku described the electoral process as a "complete sham" and urged INEC to honor his call for cancellation to ensure a free and fair electoral exercise in the senatorial district.

He raised concerns about plans by the state government to rig the elections and indicated that the Labour Party would consult to determine the best course of action. Maku accused INEC of merely providing a platform for the government to manipulate votes and highlighted specific areas where voters were disenfranchised, including Agyaga, Ningo, and Bohr elector wards in Gudi Poll Unit, Akwanga LGA.

He cited issues such as the non-usage of biometric voter authentication and manipulation of figures in several polling units.
