Labour Party Announces Candidates for June 20 By-Elections

The Labour Party has concluded its primary elections ahead of the June 20, 2026, by-elections, selecting Labaran Maku, a former minister, and Simon Ez, an ex-diplomat, as candidates for various vacant legislative seats across the country. The announcement was made by Ken Asogwa, the party's national public secretary, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Maku emerged as the consensus candidate for the Nasarawa North senatorial district, while Ez was selected for the Enugu North senatorial district. The primary process was described as peaceful and free of rancor, producing candidates including Sam Kinane for the River South East senatorial district, Ig Asemudara for Ondo South, Abubakar Muhammad for Dawaki Kudu, and Muhammad Galadima for Zuru State constituency in Kebbi State.

These selections follow the deaths of previous lawmakers representing these constituencies. The Labour Party commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its professional and diligent monitoring of the primary elections.
