ADC Blames Tinubu's Subsidy Removal for Poverty Surge

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has attributed the 63% rise in Nigeria's poverty rate to President Bola Tinubu's removal of fuel subsidies. In a statement released on Thursday by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC emphasized that the economic policies of Tinubu's administration have led to significant hardship for Nigerians, with many experiencing a rapid decline in purchasing power and living conditions.

The ADC criticized the government's hasty decision to remove fuel subsidies without adequately considering the impact on ordinary citizens' livelihoods. Abdullahi noted that higher fuel and transport costs have contributed to rising prices for food and basic necessities.

Despite the government's justification for redirecting funds to critical sectors like health and education, Abdullahi stated that improvements have not materialized, and independent surveys indicate that 93% of Nigerians believe the country is headed in the wrong direction under Tinubu's leadership. The ADC argues that the government's focus should be on the welfare of its citizens rather than external priorities.
