Amaechi Withdraws Lawsuit Against Atiku Over ADC Primary

Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transport, has withdrawn his lawsuit against Atiku Abubakar concerning the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary held on May 25, 2023. The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyc Abdulmalik, struck out the case on Friday after Amaechi's counsel, Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, informed the court of the application for discontinuation.

The legal action was initiated by Amaechi to challenge the outcome of the ADC primary, which resulted in Atiku Abubakar being named the party's flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election. Amaechi argued that the primary violated the provisions of the Electoral Act and the ADC's constitution.

He sought several reliefs, including the nullification of the primary and an order to prevent INEC from recognizing Atiku as the party's candidate. The withdrawal of the suit signals a resolution of the dispute, allowing the ADC to proceed with its preparations for the upcoming elections.
