Major IU Mairiga and Soldiers Killed in Borno Assault

In Borno, Major IU Mairiga and three soldiers were killed during a coordinated night assault on a forward base by insurgents. The unit, which had been deployed less than four months prior, faced fierce resistance but ultimately overpowered the attackers, who retreated into the bush.

Upon arrival of reinforcements, troops recovered a rocket-propelled grenade, anti-aircraft weapons, and machine guns, along with several terrorist corpses at the scene. The attack also resulted in the wounding of three civilians engaged in reconstruction work in the village.

Meanwhile, the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai reported the neutralization of several Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists during a failed attack on February 28 to March 1, 2026, recovering heavy weapons and arresting two ISWAP logistics suppliers. Lt. Col. Sani Uba confirmed that troops sustained offensive operations across Sector II, destroying terrorist logistical structures and seizing arms and medical supplies.
