Imoke and Bassey Resign from PDP Amid Internal Challenges

Liyel Imoke, the former Governor of Cross River State, and Gershom Bassey, a former Senator representing Cross River South, have officially resigned from the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Imoke's resignation letter, dated March 2, 2026, was addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Itigidi, Abi Local Government Area.

He noted that ongoing issues within the party made it increasingly difficult for him to participate actively. Imoke has had a long association with the PDP since joining in 1998 and has served in various capacities, including as a presidential special adviser and as governor.

Bassey submitted his resignation on March 12, 2026, to the PDP ward chairman in Calabar South. He expressed that leaving the party was not an easy decision but was influenced by internal challenges faced by the PDP.

Both former leaders acknowledged their long-standing contributions to the party and the state.
