Gunmen Attack NIPSS in Plateau, Killing Three Security Operatives

On Monday night, gunmen attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) located in Kuru, Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of three security operatives. The incident occurred around 11:40 PM when the assailants stormed the facility and opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire with security personnel stationed at the institute.

A staff member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the attack was unexpected and that security operatives engaged the assailants in a gun battle to prevent them from gaining access to the premises. Among the deceased were two soldiers and a police officer attached to the institute's security detail.

A swift response from security operatives prevented the gunmen from penetrating deeper into the facility, thereby averting further damage. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.

Residents of Kuru, particularly in the Jos South Local Government Area, reported panic as gunfire echoed for several minutes during the night. Efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command for an official comment were unsuccessful.
