Bail Hearing for Nigerian Activist Stalled Amid Legal Clash

The bail hearing for a Nigerian activist was postponed at the Federal High Court in Abuja due to disagreements among the legal team. The lead defense counsel, Femi Balogun, accused lawyer Marshal Abubakar of obstructing the bail process, alleging that he prevented the lead counsel from proceeding with the case.

This conflict resulted in the withdrawal of an earlier bail application. Justice Crack, presiding over the matter, subsequently struck the application following the withdrawal request from Balogun.

A fresh bail application has been filed and is scheduled to be heard on May 18. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, was present during the proceedings but did not object to the bail hearing.

The activist has been remanded in custody related to charges involving alleged criticism of the Nigerian Army and cybercrime offenses under the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act of 2015.
