Kaduna Court Adjourns Ruling on El-Rufai's Bail Case

The Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the ruling on former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s bail application regarding nine counts of charges filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The hearing took place behind closed doors on a Tuesday, with journalists denied access to the courtroom.

El-Rufai faces amended charges that include allegations of fraud and abuse of office, specifically involving the approval of the release of 11 billion naira to unregistered entities for a light rail project. He is also accused of mismanaging a 1.08 million dollar World Bank loan intended for Kaduna State and unlawfully awarding a 4.6 billion naira CCTV contract, violating procurement laws.

His defense counsel, Ubong Akpan, stated that the defense team needed time to review the amended charges. The case is set to continue with a hearing on the bail application scheduled for April 14.
