Lagos Court Grants Bail to Activists Arrested During Anti-Demolition Protests

The Yaba Magistrate Court in Lagos granted bail of ₦200,000 each to Hassan Taiwo, popularly known as Soweto protest leader, and Dele Frank. They were arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command for alleged felony offenses arising from anti-demolition protests in Ikeja.

The police filed five counts against them, including obstructing traffic and unlawful assembly. Chief Femi Falana SAN represented the activists in court.

The arrests occurred during protests against forced evictions in low-income communities. The activists were accused of engaging in violent and unlawful demonstrations, including blocking roads and using provocative language against the police and the Lagos State government.

The court granted bail with two sureties each and adjourned the case to March 3, 2026. The charges against them include conspiracy to commit felony, threatening public officials, breaching the peace, obstructing traffic, and singing abusive songs against the police and the state government.
