Activists Face Trial Over Anti-Demolition Protest in Lagos Court

Two activists, Comrade Hassan Taiwo and Dele Frank Yaba, were arraigned in a Lagos court over their involvement in an anti-demolition protest against the Lagos State House of Assembly. The activists faced charges including conspiracy, breach of peace, threat, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and singing abusive songs against the police and Lagos State government.

The prosecutor, Anthony Ihiehi, presented the case, while human rights lawyer Femi Falana appeared to defend the activists. A mild drama unfolded in court when Falana objected to the prosecutor's attempt to prevent him from representing the activists based on his seniority.

The magistrate ruled in Falana's favor, allowing him to defend the activists and granting them bail of N200,000 each. The case was adjourned to March 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
