Nigerian Government Removes Compulsory Mathematics for Arts Students Seeking University Admission

The Nigerian government has declared that Arts students applying for university admission will no longer need to present a credit pass in Mathematics. This change is part of a revision in the entry requirements for Nigerian tertiary institutions to remove barriers and maintain academic standards.

The new policy mandates a minimum of five credit passes in relevant subjects, including English language, with no compulsory Mathematics requirement for Arts and Humanities students. Education analyst Ayodamola Oluwatoyin praised the reform efforts, while Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa described the change as a deliberate move to increase access to tertiary education across Nigeria.
