Nollywood Actor Arrested Over Alleged Coup Plot Against Nigerian President Tinubu

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanlei Amandi, who is also the former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Actor Guild of Nigeria, was arrested in September 2025 for his alleged role in a coup plot against President Bola Tinubu. Amandi was accused of recruiting coup plotters and serving as a propagandist for the planned violent overthrow.

The investigation revealed that the coup plotters had also planned to assassinate top government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Senate President Godswil Akpabio. Amandi, along with military officials and civilians, is expected to face trial either in a military tribunal or a civil court based on their status.

The military has confirmed the uncovering of the coup plot and has indicted those involved. Amandi, known for his work in Nollywood as an actor, product manager, and director, was active on social media until his arrest.
