NDDC Launches 2026 Moot Trial Competition in Port Harcourt

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) officially launched its 2026 Annual Moot and Mock Trial Competition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday, bringing together 16 law faculties from the region's nine states. Mr Chiedu Ebie, Chairman of the 7th NDDC Governing Board, stated that the competition is vital for building the confidence of young legal professionals and enhancing their advocacy and courtroom presentation skills.

He emphasized that such competitions allow students to engage in practical courtroom practice, which is essential for their future careers. Dr Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the NDDC, represented by Boma Iyaye, Executive Director of Finance and Administration, noted that previous feedback indicates the moot trial's significant role in legal education.

Olumide Akpata, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, praised the NDDC's initiative and urged the board to revive its Memorandum of Understanding with the NBA, highlighting the importance of investing in the legal profession for regional transformation.
