KACRAN Urges Tinubu to Operationalize Livestock Ministry

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the immediate full operationalization of the Ministry of Livestock Development. In a statement signed by KACRAN President Khalil Mohd Bello, the association expressed concern regarding the ministry's current incapacity due to inadequate funding and lack of a full operational structure.

Established in 2022, the ministry currently functions under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security rather than as a fully-fledged ministry with the autonomy it deserves. KACRAN criticized this arrangement, stating that it has led to neglect of the livestock sector, resulting in conflicts between farmers and herders and hindering job creation.

The association emphasized that a fully operational ministry would attract foreign investment, boost Nigeria's GDP, and enhance food security by reducing the annual expenditure on meat and dairy imports. KACRAN also commended the North East Development Commission for its support of livestock resilience projects.
