Ministry of Livestock Partners with Private Sector in Katsina

The Ministry of Livestock Development, under the leadership of Stella Oduem, has pledged to collaborate with the private sector to modernize Nigeria's livestock industry. During a three-day working visit to Katsina State, the ministry inspected several facilities, including the Charanchi ranch and the Obasanjo sheep and goat farm.

The visit aimed to engage directly with stakeholders across the livestock value chain and understand the realities and challenges within the sector. The ministry noted the successful implementation of private investments in ranching, with Charanchi ranch covering 150 hectares, of which 50 hectares are dedicated to pasture cultivation.

The ministry aims to dispel misconceptions about modern ranching being impractical in Nigeria and highlighted the need for investments to create sustainable livestock production models. The Katsina State Goat Multiplication Centre was commended for empowering women and youth in livestock ownership.

The ministry also emphasized the importance of animal health management and the establishment of veterinary clinics across the state to support livestock owners.
