Kaduna Governor Uba Sani Raises Salaries for Traditional Rulers

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has approved an increase in the remuneration of traditional rulers throughout the state. This new arrangement encompasses various categories of traditional leaders, including paramount rulers such as Emirs and Chiefs, as well as district and village heads.

The Kaduna State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) welcomed this decision, asserting that improved welfare for traditional rulers would enable them to contribute more effectively to peace and security efforts within their communities. ALGON emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in governance due to their close ties with grassroots populations.

The association noted that enhanced remuneration could motivate traditional leaders to engage more actively in intelligence gathering, dispute resolution, and fostering peaceful relationships among residents. Furthermore, ALGON stated that stronger cooperation between traditional institutions, local government councils, and security agencies could assist the state in addressing security concerns and other issues.
