Kaduna Launches Flood Preparedness Campaign for 2026

Kaduna State has initiated a flood preparedness campaign following the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) forecast predicting substantial rainfall in the state from May 19 to June 10, 2026. The campaign, launched by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahm Maiyaki, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), aims to raise public awareness about emergency response strategies.

The campaign encourages residents to clear drainage channels around their homes and businesses to prevent flooding and to adopt safety measures such as using sandbags for local flood control. Maiyaki urged traditional institutions, religious leaders, media organizations, and civil society groups to support government efforts in promoting environmental sanitation and disseminating verified information to the public.

KADSEMA has also begun vulnerability assessments in flood-prone communities to strengthen emergency response coordination and pre-position rescue operations in high-risk areas.
